Get to Know the Pets and Heroes
Nick is the police lieutenant for East Maui. Growing up, he experienced his older brother making a positive impact and wanted to become a police officer to follow in his footsteps. His favorite dog was his dog Stryder, who was a devoted companion and steadfast protector of his family and kids.

Kalani has served the police department for 23 years and has held various leadership roles, including forming part of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers’ Board of Directors. He has been awarded the Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence “Instructor of the Year,” and strives to always help his community.

Kaena has served the police department for 24 years and currently serves as Sergeant of Community Relations. She has 7 cats, 3 rescued from a police station, 2 from MHS, and 1 from a tree in Lahaina! Her upbringing inspires her to give back to others and create a lasting impact on younger generations, showing the "human" side of police work.

Jayvee, a police officer in Hana, has served for just over a year and enjoys facing the challenges that each day brings. He loves German Shepherds for their loyalty and hopes to adopt from MHS in the future.

Hank, a 7-year-old dog, was the runt of a litter rescued in Hana. Allergic to “almost everything,” he enjoys his plastic grass yard, curls up small like a lap dog, and, after four hip surgeries, remains the sweetest, most perfect boy.
