My 13 year old dog unexpectedly became ill and was gone within 2 weeks of his first symptoms. Two weeks was not enough time for me to prepare for a goodbye. I had such a hole in my heart, I couldn't take it so I went to a local shelter and found Riley. Riley was scheduled to be put down over Labor Day weekend in 2009 (I was told because they did not want to pay overtime for a holiday) in Tennessee. Thankfully a network of people brought a truckload of those dogs up here to be adopted out. I adopted Riley on Labor Day and went to work that Tuesday (I'm a teacher). This was bad timing for me to get a puppy but all my neighbors chipped in and helped me out by stopping in and taking Riley out for walks and bathroom breaks. He is a giant "lovebug" and is especially fond of puppies - he nurtures them like they are his own babies. He's super smart as you can see in the photo. He loves to do tricks! He loves people and is sweet to everyone. He has helped fill the hole in my heart! :-)
