Nominee's story
Mel is a morning news anchor at WIVB in Buffalo. She has been an advocate for all animals, especially dogs for all three years she's spent here in WNY. Her love for animals led to a twice weekly segment on News 4's Wake Up called Mel's Mutts. She features pups that are up for adoption from local organizations. Because of the segment, most of the dogs she's helped feature have been adopted within 24 hours. Mel, a dog-mom herself, has always shown a passion for helping pups (and other animals) in need.
