Nominee's story
Mike Del Zoppo, co-owner of Eat Rite Foods, first came to Niagara County SPCA to sponsor a cage and surprised everyone at the shelter when he sponsored for an entire year! Mike and Eat Rite Foods have a great social media following, so Mike would come to the shelter and take a photo with our harder-to-adopt animals to give them some positive publicity and it worked! The shelter dogs received so many shares on Facebook because of Mike’s presence in the community. He’s participated in commercials to promote the program and he even offered to sell Niagara County SPCA calendars at Eat Rite Foods locations and sold more than anyone! Whenever Mike is asked to help the animals, he always says yes. Mike has two dogs at home that he loves more than anything and if he was able to he would take all of the shelter dogs home! That’s why Mike deserves to be named “Shelter Advocate of the Year” for going above and beyond to help homeless animals find their forever homes.
