We are nominating our friend Lisa Graff because she has always been a strong and consistent voice for animals, their well-being and chance for them to be loved!
Although her advocacy did not start with Sophia, this is when her true passion flourished. Lisa rescued Sophia from an abusive situation. She was kept in a basement and never saw the outdoors. Thanks to Lisa and her friend they saved her life. With support from DITR, Lisa helped get her to a hospital and receive the proper treatment for her life-threatening condition. Once Sophia recovered, Lisa and her son Adam adopted.
Lisa has also been a member of Diamonds in the Ruff for over 10 years. As a Niagara Falls teacher, Ms. Graff has helped fund raise with her students and had speakers teach kids about proper care of pets and the importance of spaying/neutering in order to the control the homeless pet population.
Year after year she continues her advocacy with over 300 plus miles logged in 2020 for volunteering with Diamonds in the Ruff. She walks dogs at Pet Lodge and she attends home visits for foster and possible adoptees. She even transports shelter dogs to vet appointments and possible fosters coming in from different states. She also donates food and toys to shelters and collects bottles for DITR. For her Birthday this year her friends bought her a SPCA shout-out which helped Flash get adopted and she raised over $950 for Adoption Fees for her Birthday instead of gifts.
Although she has a favoritism towards dogs, she even transports cats and helps turtles get to their proper habitat.
She is a true inspiration to all! When you ask Lisa why she dedicates so much of her life to animals she says, “I believe animals are innocent. They have no control over their situation so we have to be their voice!”.
