Nominee's story
Mike Modrzynski of Wonderland Character Entertainment first came to Niagara County SPCA to sponsor a cage, but he did way more than that. His business is a character-based business so he decided to get creative to help the SPCA's shelter dogs get adopted. Instead of taking a photo with just himself, he brought his characters to the shelter to pose with the animals in the hopes it would give them more visibility. Beauty and the Beast were the first to come and pose with shelter dog, Ziggy, who was adopted very shortly after and then Frisco the puppy! Frisco the puppy took such a liking to the characters that they offered to come surprise him again, this time with gifts! The SPCA made a video of the surprise and Frisco's smile from ear to ear was heartwarming to say the least! He was adopted shortly after the video was posted with the characters and Mike and his colleagues couldn't be happier! Wonderland Character Entertainment also donated a beautiful basket for the SPCA's Mardi Paws fundraiser and they said whenever the SPCA needs them, they will always be there to lend a paw! That's why Mike should be named "Shelter Advocate of the Year" for going above and beyond to help shelter dogs in need!
