Nominee's story
Desmond Benimoff may only be in elementary school, but he already knows the importance of kindness to animals. Desmond loves all animals and so he asked his mom if there was a way he could help shelter animals find homes. For the past year Desmond and his mom, Meghan, have been sponsoring a cage at Niagara County SPCA in the hopes that they would help find a homeless animal a home and it worked! Desmond has helped several animals find forever homes in his name and he is always so excited and delighted when he gets to see a photo of animal that he picked out, go to a loving home.

Desmond has had a very rough year as he has been battling leukemia. Around Christmastime his mom wanted to do something very special for him, so she picked out the “purrfect” kitten at the shelter for Desmond to adopted and surprised him on Christmas. Desmond named his kitten Bailey and the two are inseparable. Desmond May have needed a best friend, but he doesn’t realize how much he changed Bailey’s life just by being in it.

Desmond’s mom also continues to support the SPCA in any way she can, recently participating in the shelter’s “Run for the Dogs 5k Virtual Run,” purchasing T-shirts to benefit the SPCA, donating baskets to events and so much more.

That’s why Desmond and Meghan should be named “Shelter Animal Advocates of the Year.”
