My NICU Graduate's Journey
Skip had tons of trauma from the emergency c-section at 38w6d. He had instant trouble breathing from swallowing fluid. He was on high flow oxygen. He had low blood sugar and major hematomas all over his head. He had an NG tube put in to get him the food he needed. He had an IV because he had a fever as well. After a couple days he had bad jaundice/bilirubin levels and was put under blue lights. His liver and his hematomas weren’t functioning and healing fast.
He was tested for Noonan’s Syndrome, and tested positive.
After a few weeks he got on low flow oxygen and was just having trouble eating all of his food. Then his feeds picked up and they sent us home on oxygen. After being home for three weeks, he got an NG tube put back in because he got food/bottle aversion.

What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?
He has overcome so much. Even though he is still a mystery and his syndrome may affect him the rest of his life, he always has a smile on his face. He is also hitting all of his development goals besides being a little small for his age! He has tons of Doctors appointments and is always in a good mood. He is a fighter and has so much courage. His little body has been through a lot but he has never given up. We are so proud of him and that he’s our son!
