• A panel of judges will choose 3 original photo entries to be featured for the remaining month spreads in the 2027 calendar.

Please read the rules carefully before submitting your photo. Images that do not follow the guidelines may not be eligible to be included in the 2027 calendar.

All photo entries with 5 votes or more are guaranteed inclusion in the calendar or on the collage pages! 

*The top three vote getters in each category (the winners) of the calendar contest will receive a 20-minute mini professional photo session, along with a with a digital copy of the selected image for the calendar. Pasadena Humane will provide a professional photographer to take a portrait of the pet at a mutually agreed upon location and date in August of 2026. The photographer will be chosen by Pasadena Humane. The photograph will become a month spread in the 2027 calendar. Furthermore, winners will have the option to participate in a viewing and ordering session, where they can explore the opportunity to purchase additional products and digital images. All photographs will become property of Pasadena Humane. Winners are responsible for reviewing the Terms and Conditions of the mini professional photo sessions.  

Calendar contest winners have the option to upgrade their photo session to a full session for an additional fee. Full sessions range from 60-90 minutes, allowing for the inclusion of other pets and family members from the same household. Full sessions will include a 7x10 print and a portion of proceeds will be donated back to Pasadena Humane.

Prizes will be awarded based on fundraising totals as reflected by the number of votes received as of 11:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, according to the clock that will appear on the contest web page during the final day of the contest. 

Note for Prize Winners: All taxes on prizes, including but not limited to federal, state and local taxes, are the responsibility of the winners. Please consult your tax adviser for additional information.

The top 2 vote-getters will be featured as the front and back cover respectively of the 2027 calendar.

The top 3 vote-getters from each category (dog, cat, other) will receive a month spread in the 2027 calendar. 

A panel of judges will choose 3 eligible original photo entries to be considered for the remaining month spreads in the 2027 calendar.

The top five vote-getters from each category will have their original photo entry featured in a special spread inside the calendar.

All photo entries with 5 votes or more are guaranteed inclusion in the calendar or on the collage pages! 

• Photos must be high-resolution and be taken horizontally to be eligible to win judges' choice
• Photos containing people's faces or wildlife are not eligible to win
• Dogs must be wearing a flat collar or harness with tag. No choke chains or prong collars will be permitted in photographs
• Dogs must not have undergone non-medical cosmetic surgery while in the owner's care
• Pasadena Humane cannot accept copyrighted photos unless the owner of the copyright agrees to the usage rights of the contest
• Photos must be full color. Heavily edited or filtered photos will not be eligible to win
• Photos with professional photographer watermarks will not be eligible to be included in the calendar
  
  

Entries are $15 per photo. You may enter as many times as you’d like. All proceeds benefit the animals at Pasadena Humane.

*A minimum of 5 votes is required for inclusion in the 2027 calendar

Votes are $1 each and you can vote for your own pet's photo(s) as many times as you'd like. All votes are tax-deductible.

Easily share your pet's photo entry on social media by using the buttons on their page. Share with your friends and family and ask them to vote!

• Take your photo in a well-lit area during the day. Natural light is your friend! If you're indoors, open a curtain or blind to let natural light in. If your light is coming from a window, take your photo with the window behind you (the photographer), so your pet is facing the light. Avoid photographing your pet with the window behind them, as this will cause them to look backlit.
• Get down to your pet's level! Crouching or kneeling allows you to get the angle of your pet that's most flattering.
• Encourage eye contact for an engaging photo! Find out what gets your pet's attention - it can be a treat, a toy, or a noise you make. Hold the treat or toy right above the camera lens or make an interesting noise to get your pet to look at the camera.
• Take lots of photos! Photographing pets is a numbers game, and the more photos you take, the more likely it is that you'll get a great one.
  
  

Winners will be contacted via email at the conclusion of the contest. You can check the leaderboard on the home page to see how your pet is doing!

Calendars will be mailed in Fall of 2026.

• Photos of all lawful pets are eligible, including dogs, cats, critters, reptiles and birds

• Your pet does NOT have to be adopted from Pasadena Humane to be eligible to enter the contest

• Photos may contain multiple pets

• The entry fee is $15 per photo. You may enter as many times as you’d like.

• Photos must be high-resolution (photos taken on your cell phone are acceptable, but please be sure you submit the original image) and must be taken horizontally to be eligible to win judges' choice

• Photos containing people's faces or wildlife are not eligible to win

• Dogs must be wearing a flat collar or harness with tag. No choke chains or prong collars will be permitted in photographs

• Dogs must not have undergone non-medical cosmetic surgery while in the owner's care

• Pasadena Humane cannot accept copyrighted photos unless the owner of the copyright agrees to the usage rights of the contest

• Pop-up "Double Vote Days" and other flash promotions will be held periodically throughout the contest

• AI images are not eligible to be in the calendar

• If photos include pets not owned by the photographer, or people not in the photographer's immediate family, written permission from the pet's owner and/or the individuals photographed allowing for Pasadena Humane to use their images according to the rules of this contest is required

• Photos must be full color. Heavily edited or filtered photos will not be eligible to win

• Photos with professional photographer watermarks will not be eligible to be included in the calendar

• Photos deemed offensive or inappropriate will be removed from the contest at Pasadena Humane’s discretion

• In the event that a photoshoot is not possible, winners must be able to submit a high-resolution, horizontal image of their winning animal to be featured as a month spread in the calendar. Failure to provide a high quality image by July 31, 2026 will result in forfeiture of the month spread to be given to the next highest winner.

• Each winner of the calendar contest will receive a 20-minute mini professional photo session. Winners will be provided with a digital copy of the selected image. Furthermore, winners will have the option to participate in a viewing and ordering session, where they can explore the opportunity to purchase additional products and digital images.

• Winners are responsible for reviewing the Terms and Conditions of the professional mini photo sessions

• Calendar contest winners have the option to upgrade their photo session to a full session for an additional fee.

• Winners must be available for their photoshoot between July and August 2026.

• Prizes are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash

• All photo entries must be submitted by 11:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Tuesday, June 30, 2026

• Photos and votes must be submitted online via the contest site. Mailed or emailed photos will not be eligible.

• Once entered, photos become the property of Pasadena Humane which may, at its discretion, copy, edit, publish, or modify entries for use in any and all media, without limitation or compensation to the photographer or the individuals and pets appearing in the photo. The submitter of the photo does not relinquish rights to use the photo

• Pasadena Humane is not able to accommodate special requests such as requests to be featured on a specific month.
