Ivan came to me from Potter League two years ago named Smokey, but his intensity, playfulness, and socialability soon demanded a new name. He is not a Russian Blue, but believes he has the chops to run a revolution.

I live in a loft, and he is an up-high animal, so I have installed walkways and ramps and a well-appointed penthouse. He surveys his domain, issuing comments, demands, and valid criticisms about my waking, sleeping, and willingness to toss fuzzy mice.

Down at floor level, Ivan is a helpful creature, interested in unfolding warm laundry, rearranging newspapers, and getting inside drawers and the cases intended for musical instruments. Nights, he cuddles and purrs in bed, and at first light he grooms me to wakefulness, licking and gently rearranging my hair. He believes he is a very important animal, and he is right.
