The Potter League for Animals is Rhode Island’s trusted animal care and resource center, providing shelter, adoption services, behavior support, humane education, spay and neuter services, and community-based programs that strengthen the bond between pets and the people who love them. Each year, we impact thousands of animals by offering care, support, and new beginnings.
Our Animal Care and Adoption Center in Middletown, Rhode Island, is an open-admission shelter, meaning we are able to help as many animals as possible. We welcome owner-surrendered pets as well as stray animals from partner communities, caring for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other small animals. Our commitment to every animal means we pursue all reasonable efforts to support their well-being and help them find the right next chapter.
Beyond adoption, the Potter League serves as a vital community resource through behavior support, training and education opportunities, foster care, and lost-and-found assistance. Our foster network plays a critical role in providing temporary homes for animals who need additional care, medical recovery time, or behavioral support.
The Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic, located in Warwick, Rhode Island, provides thousands of affordable spay and neuter surgeries each year, helping prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of animals entering shelters across Rhode Island and neighboring communities.
We also work collaboratively with local organizations, municipal partners, and animal welfare groups nationwide. In times of crisis, the Potter League has served as an emergency resource for animals affected by disasters and continues to advocate for policies and practices that improve the lives of animals statewide.
