Story
Ten of us gathered in early March to brainstorm creative themes. It was fun to conceptualize a variety of options. We talked about painting flowers. We talked about neon colors (as a nod to the artist Keith Haring we recently studied). We began talking about places to travel. We loved the idea of decoupaging our chair with bright images taken from our huge National Geographic magazine collection. After a lively discussion, we agreed on our theme: “Bucket List.” For days, we collected images to be considered for our chair. We categorized and sorted images. We began with the underside of the chair. We used our favorite deep sea images and joked our theme had morphed into “under the sea.” The water images make perfect sense with our map images on top. We think of them as land and sea. We are delighted with our map images over the top of the chair and like our “earth” image as a sort of medallion.
