Story
Our vision for our chair was to highlight the healthy versus unhealthy things people do in their life and the overall effects of these on memory and cognition. We decided to go with a double rocking chair to better highlight the healthy and unhealthy lifestyle choices. On the unhealthy side we highlight the things you can consume/do in your life that lead to an unhealthy lifestyle. We also showcase unhealthy brain images to demonstrate the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle. On the healthy side we show the things that can lead to a healthy lifestyle, and yes dark chocolate and red wine are healthy! We also highlight healthy brain images. On the back of the chair, we utilized Spanish moss to represent the synapses (how our neurons communicate) in the brain. The moss is thinner on the unhealthy side to illustrate the decline in synaptic connections when cognitive disease progresses. Materials used to create the chair include the following: primer, semi-gloss spray paint, acrylic sealer, water-based glue, hot glue, Fritos corn chips, McDonalds French fries, Taco Bell, and Krispy Kreme. The images have been applied to the chair by decoupage.
