Your Pet's Story or Bio
Stanley is an 8-year-old Chocolate Lab, 120 lbs of love ! We adopted Stan from the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in September 2019. Melanie thought he would be a great candidate for the Shelter's Humane Education program. He happily took on the role of Humane Education Dog, visiting classrooms and making friends all over the county. He is friendly and gentle with everyone he meets, loves to sunbathe on the deck, snores very loudly, and does not like rain or cold (thus wears clothing in the winter). He is surprisingly gentle and careful for such a large dog.
One of the most special things about Stanley is his sensitivity to those around him. He will immediately identify a person or animal in a room or area who is upset or stressed. He will respectfully go to that person or animal and gently lean into them with his whole body, almost like he's offering a hug. He'll stay there for as long as is needed. In his classroom work, he was able to help young children who initially had a fear of dogs find the courage to pet him and sit with him, because he is so quiet, gentle and reassuring. Every day we let Stanley know how special his is and how lucky we are to know him !
