Your Pet's Story or Bio
I adopted Toby (prev name was SIMBA) back in September 2018. When I called the shelter to inquire about him, the volunteer told me that he is an energetic dog and needs an active new owner; that six people already passed at him once they saw and realized how hyper Toby is.

I told the lady, let me see him, let me try. I went to Santa Cruz Animal Shelter, Thursday. Another volunteer said to me that other volunteers got tired of showing Toby to people because when they see that Toby can be a handful dog, they backed out. I persisted. I walked Toby, and he was not dragging me, he was calm and obeyed commands like, stop, okay.

The lady at the desk said, "wow, that's the first." Please come back on Saturday. He is probably tired, that's why he is calm with you. So, I did. Saturday, I see Toby again. And he is as calm and lovely as I saw him the first time. I want to think that he chose me rather than I chose him.

Toby is a very responsible, loving, and calm dog I have had so far. He does not chew, does not make any mess, watches TV, and he talks. He does talk (via dog words of course). If he sees me looking for something...he would say "ueerh, urrr"; maybe he wants to ask me what can he do to help me find it.

One afternoon, he was taking a nap. by the kitchen table where I was working on my school stuff...I got up once in a while to get things and the little noise startled him from his nap....Toby got up and utter, "uuurr, weuer"...looked at me upset and walked away. He got upset, I was ruining his afternoon nap :-)

Everyday, he runs to one of the bedrooms upstairs to watch me getting into my car for work. And of course, when I get home, his eyes sparkle.
