Our fundraising is primarily being done in memory of Susanna Lambe Walker. Sue was a courageous breast cancer survivor and received 21 years of incredible treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. Her friends and family in the U.S.A. celebrate and remember Susanna's life by holding a memorial golf tournament in her honour every September. We think of Sue and have come to accept that she is no longer with us in person but we do feel her spirit is with us. While we really miss her we are trying to let ourselves think of her and all the good things that she represented, how consciously she lived her life and how she would not wish any of us to be sad as we think of her.

All of us have fond thoughts and memories and continue to be grateful for her resilience, example, humour and amazing ability to engage life when faced with the constant challenge of living with cancer. That is a gift she gave to all of us.

The loss of Sue brings us back to earliest, but most evocative memories of being with her, our family bunch, when she was just a kid, and then a teen, and then an energetic thing off to college. These valuable memories are a blessing and a comfort. Her exceptional energy lives on.

Each special memory that is personal to us seems to be replicated with each person that has this experience of being a friend or family member of someone with breast cancer: aren't we so lucky to have had them in our lives and now to have such beautiful memories. Personally, I cherish every Thanksgiving trip that I made to the US, it allowed me to share in and appreciate our US family's life and adopt a bit of the culture. All the pumpkin pies and Black Fridays!
