The 2024 calendar will focus on the NAUGHTY and NICE Huskies and Northern breeds and the inseparable bond they have with their hooomans. Master Wolf of Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. believes that rescuing and caring for rescue dogs can be the most transformative experience of a lifetime. The vulnerable interaction breaks the vicious cycle of a past history of abuse and neglect and brings rejuvenation, reinvigoration and regained quality of life. When a Husky or Northern breed is feeling relieved from distress and grief, there is a calming inner peace. Once trust is established through love and hands on affection there is joy and a sense of ease which helps Huskies, Northern breeds and owners alike deal with every day minor stress, physical and emotional discomforts. The enduring comfort experienced between a Husky and a Northern breed and their human is the utmost form of happiness on earth. Everyone has a NAUGHTY and NICE story or two to tell. Your story is IMPORTANT. It has MEANING. We want to read about them and learn about them and see beautiful photos of your fluffy butts. We are HOPING that after the stories are read and shared by viewers for six weeks during the contest and while participants share your stories and place $1 bids for the dogs that they love, everyone who reads them and sees their accompanying NAUGHTY and NICE photos will be delighted while we continue to take care of animals and help others in need.

The funds raised from this year's Calendar Contest will help pay down outstanding veterinary bills and benefit future rescue dogs.

From January 1, 2023 - August 31. 2023, we have had many success stories so far and many were adopted into wonderful happy homes. We have been rescuing shelter dogs and receiving more surrender dogs because the shelters have been full and have been rejecting them. Tim McVicker tries his best to respond to the 100s of daily pleas for help.  We pulled JENNY from the Inland Valley Humane Society in April 2023.  She got bit by a rattle snake and was rushed to the emergency vet where she received fluids and anti-venom.  SHADOW we pulled from the Ramona Humane Society after he was completely run over by a car in 2022.  After receiving 4 surgeries in 2022, he spent the first half of 2023 doing weekly physical therapy including acupuncture, laser therapy and water treadmill.  ZEUS we pulled from the Downey shelter in July 2023 who weighed 147 pounds.  He has been on a special diet and is now with his 2nd foster / potential forever home!  WINTER we pulled from the Downey shelter in July 2023 after she had been hit by a car with a fractured hip.  She went from the shelter straight to the specialty vet where she received surgery performed by Dr. Keashan (pictured) with a plate and 6 screws inserted.  Previous to getting hit by a car, she lived in inhumane and unacceptable conditions in a 3 foot x 12 foot filthy outdoor enclosure in a private residence for 3 years.  CLOUD who was originally brought to our rescue in 2015 from an abusive backyard situation went through 2 adoptions.  Subsequent to the passing of his last owner, he came to live with us at the Shadow Husky Rescue Sanctuary, a private licensed kennel.  For the past 2 years he has been experiencing a variety of respitory symptoms and blood disorders going in and out of the hospital for overnight stays.  He is undergoing continuous care for his coughing with the internist at the VCA specialty vet.  In August 2023, he underwent a CT scan.  ELSA who was one of our first rescued husky in 2015 was found in the dumpster of the Home Depot Paramount parking lot fully engorged and shaven just having given birth then abandoned to die.  She underwent TPLO surgery in April 2023 by board certified surgeon (pictured) Dr. Sung at VCA Murrieta.  BLAZE we pulled from the Hesperia shelter in March 2023 and was just a puppy with a broken leg.  She went straight from the shelter to Dr. Craig at the the Veterinary Surgical Specialists for surgery and is now living her best life in her forever home!  TITUS was living in the street with fly bitten ears, worn teeth from biting on a cage, fur missing from a tight collar, and very dirty.  With the help of his loving foster now owner and medical oversight he was restored to health and a fully quality of life living with another husky who loves him so much.  KEIDEN has been a sanctuary husky since 2014.  He is very NAUGHTY and was brought directly to us and left with us in a dog park by his prior owner who could only take 1 day living with him, but we love him so very much and could not live day to day without him.  He looked like the Hunchback of Notre Dame before he underwent surgery in January 2023 for a left shoulder mass debulking with a subsequent diagnosis of cancer removed with clear margins.  ROGUE, LOBO and JEANNIE were all medical huskies who unfortunately became deceased in 2023.  ROGUE had a couple of liver masses and an anal gland growth removed at the VCA Carlsbad.  Subsequently she suffered pneumonia and died at the VCA and never made it home.  LOBO (who in 2022 had underwent 2 weeks of training for being labeled as vicious then went to live at our sanctaury when he became unadoptabel) had been diagnosed with melanoma and JEANNIE with a cancerous sheath tumor in 2022.  Both LOBO and JEANNIE underwent each of them 6 radiation treatments in 2023.  Unfortunately, medical care was not enought to prevent them from going over the rainbow bridge to husky heaven.  We love them very much and they are always in our hearts and the hearts of those who remember them. Other medical procedures this year have included our regular spay, neuter, diagnostics, x-rays, ultrasounds, infections, vaccinations, micro-chipping and more!
