SoundWaters mission is to protect Long Island Sound through Education. For over 30 years we have offered effective and innovative science education programs to hundreds of thousands of students both ashore and at sea. Every year, thousands of students benefit from our programs. Thanks to the support of people like you.
Annually, SoundWaters hosts shipboard and land-based programs for 32,000 students. SoundWaters works in partnership with schools, communities, civic organizations, businesses and other environmental and educational organizations to develop experiences that foster a sense of responsibility for the environment and encourage actions that ensure the sustainable future of Long Island Sound.
During COVID, SoundWaters is producing and delivering Virtual Field Trips to teachers across the Long Island Sound region so that students can continue to study the science of the region’s greatest natural resource.
During the summer, we offer three distinct sailing and learning experiences on Long Island Sound for students in elementary school through high school - Camp SoundWaters, Young Mariners, SoundWaters Research Intensive
For young adults post high school, SoundWaters Harbor Corps engages young men and women ages 19-24 in an eight-week program to learn workforce and technical skills which will prepare them for employment in the marine trades.
For people of all ages SoundWaters hosts monthly beach cleanups and the opportunity to get out and experience Long Island Sound aboard the Schooner SoundWaters and aboard our fleet of kayaks and paddle boards.
