Meet Marley

If you’ve ever visited the SPCA Benefit Shop in the Barnyard, chances are you’ve already met Marley—our beloved Corgi ambassador, store mascot, treat connoisseur, and unofficial head of hospitality.

A former show dog and AKC Grand Champion, Marley gracefully retired from the spotlight, but couldn't have puppies, so she was readopted and found her way to Carmel where she subsequently chose a new calling: community service. When life took an unexpected turn and motherhood wasn’t in her future, Marley devoted herself fully to caring for others—bringing joy, comfort, and a little mischief to everyone she meets.

With her soulful brown eyes and perfectly timed lip-lick, Marley has mastered the art of winning hearts (and treats). She’s known to gently persuade customers into sharing snacks, and has built such a loyal following that some visitors stop by just to see her.

Her daily routine is quite structured. She greets guests at the counter, supervises activity, and—precisely at lunchtime—makes her way through the customers directly to the lunchroom. Afterward, she dutifully returns to her post, ever watchful and ready to welcome the next visitor.

Outside, Marley enjoys her favorite pastime: spotting lizards in the Barnyard. Though she’s never caught one, the pursuit itself is clearly part of the joy.

At closing time, Marley takes her responsibilities seriously—helping “clean” the shop by carefully locating any crumbs left behind.
We are so fortunate to have Marley in our lives. With her charm, beauty, and big heart, she reminds us daily why supporting the SPCA matters—helping ensure that more animals can find safety, care, and love.
