Your Cat's Adoption Story
Two weeks before adopting Aspen, I walked into the PetSmart in Collegeville with my sons. Back then, his name was Orlando, and I noticed him immediately. I felt bad walking away that day, but something about him stuck with me.
Two weeks later, after a trip to Wegmans, I decided to stop by PetSmart again on a whim. I’m so glad I did—Aspen was there. I was told he wasn’t even scheduled to be there that day, but his foster mom had brought him along. I wasn’t looking for a cat at the time; I had just moved into a new apartment after a divorce. But they say the animal chooses the owner, and that’s exactly what happened.
At first, Aspen was scared and hesitant to leave his cage. I wrapped him in a blanket to help him feel safe, and the moment he let out a big sigh in my lap, I knew he was the one. (The Churu treat probably helped, too.) As he relaxed and began to open up, it became clear—he had picked me, and I was going home with a cat.
When I returned the next day to pick him up, Aspen remembered me. He leapt out of the cage as if he knew I was his person. Since then, we’ve been inseparable. He’s gone from a shy, skittish kitten to a pillow thief, spring chaser, hug-giver, kiss-sharer, and my furry best friend.
Thank you, Stray Cat Blues, for everything you do. Without Aspen, I don’t think I would have gotten through such a difficult time in my life. We’ve helped each other heal and grow
