Pet personality / Story of adoption / Why is your pet special?Annie was born in the lilac bushes in our back yard. Her mother, a feral cat from the canyon close to our house, abandoned her when she was about four weeks old. We adopted her and named her Orphan Annie.
She was/is like no other cat I have ever had. Although she was easily tamed, her feral instincts were still there!. Her behavior is not typical of a domesticated cat. If she wants something and you just ignore her, you are liable to get a bite on your leg. She has her own ways of communicating! She hunts, but seldom kills her prey (mice, baby rabbits, baby birds). She'd just rather play with them or bring them to me for show and tell. She has given us boundless joy and love, but those wild moments.
This photo of Orphan Annie earned top voting cover model honors for the McCook Humane Society 2017 calendar. Every former calendar cover model is automatically entered in the next years calendar contest for being such a giant supporter of our southwest, Nebraska animal shelter mission and"Hall of Fame Winners Circle."
Thank you for remembering Orphan Annie - an award winning calendar cover cat model and contest photo winner.
