Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Hilarious?
STEVIE
Ewing, New Jersey
I adopted Stevie 2 years ago in Philadelphia from New Leash on Life, an organization that pairs at-risk dogs with people experiencing incarceration. She went through a training process with a handler and upon graduation, Stevie came to live with me. At that time Stevie was 10 years old and became the senior member of what became, with her arrival, a 3-dog pack.
Two years later, Stevie is still “the sister I never asked for” to my 9-year-old dog Sydney, but her 2-year-old brother Gus keeps her young with short bouts of play time. Even so, our Stevie isn’t terribly athletic; she will place her front paws on the couch and simply wait for someone to pick up her back half.
But when it comes to food... Well that’s a different story. Stevie holds the title of fastest eater in the world and will even go so far as to run into friends and neighbors houses searching for snacks. Along with being supremely food motivated, Stevie is a fashion connoisseur and model.
Everyone knows Stevie loves to wear and show off costumes. She comes to work with me every day and my co-workers have begun to gift her seasonal outfits. Stevie has a habit of rolling on her back and baring a fiendishly toothy grin. That led to the nickname “Stevie Shark” and a shark costume to go with it.
This beautiful senior girl makes me smile every day, and I’m so grateful that she found her way into my life.
