Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Extraordinary"?
Winter is truly extraordinary, a dog with a story that touches the heart. Found as a stray young mama living on the streets, she came to me a year ago with a past full of unknowns but with so much love to give. At first, she was nervous about the outside world, but now she has blossomed into the gentlest soul with a goofy, playful side that lights up every room.
One of Winter’s quirks is her unique way of self-soothing: she LOVES eating socks, blankets, scarves, and pillowcases. After a few “oops,” I got her a special “Winter’s blankie” to satisfy this odd habit and it’s become her favorite comfort object.
Another fun fact—she doesn't know how to play with toys or balls, showing no interest whatsoever. But god forbid a bird or squirrel crosses her path—her whole attention shifts instantly!
If Winter had another name, it might be Velcro. She sticks to you the moment you sit down, pushing into you with all her might and becoming the most amazing snuggler ever. Maybe she was a baby kangaroo in a past life. Despite being such a cuddler, she doesn’t like to sleep in bed with me. She prefers to “tuck me in” before settling into her own bed.
Winter is also an incredible therapy dog. She senses who needs comfort and gently stays by their side, offering the softest hugs. She’s the best sister to her older sibling Rosebud, patiently encouraging her to stay active, even when stairs become tough.
Fastest runner in Brooklyn and Eastern Long Island? Absolutely. She surprises even herself with her speed...maybe there’s some greyhound in her. She always comes when called, stopping on a dime.
Winter rarely barks but greets me with hilarious Chewbacca sounds, and she's recently mastered howling long and low at ambulances.
Every day, Winter looks at me with such gratitude, and we are utterly and completely in love. She’s not just a dog—she’s family.
