Is your rescue pet special?  Well, of course!  Not just special, you might say, but remarkable.  Well, remarkable doesn't quite capture it.  The right word, when you think about it, is extraordinary.   Yes, that's it!  Your rescue pet is extraordinary.

"I'm Rescued and Extraordinary" celebrates the exceptional qualities that our companion animals bring to our lives.  There is no such thing as a "common" rescue animal.  Each in their own unique way is outstanding, incredible and rare.  

It may be that your rescue pet has an uncanny ability to tune into your moods and feelings.  He or she may have extraordinary intelligence or agility.  Your pet may show a spunkiness or resiliency that stands out.  Others may have learned certain endearing behaviors on their own, that warms your heart. 

The ways a rescue pet can be extraordinary are endless, an extra special part of that animal you love so much.

You may recognize the extraordinary dogs and cats in this year's banner, because they were all homeless pets adopted or fostered through The Crossings Animal Society.  Tenley, now Agnes, now lives happily with his canine and feline housemates.  Stripes, the miracle cat who is a permanent resident in the CAS office, is happy and mischievous despite a serious neurological injury.  Layla, a beautiful Shepherd mix, is a wonderful, athletic dog who found just the right family.  Agatha Christie, on the far right, is a beautiful older cat still in foster, awaiting her forever home.

Now it's your pet's turn to be featured in our calendar.  Starting Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., we invite you to enter your extraordinary companion animal into this year's photo contest.

The contest continues to be open for all companion animals adopted through a rescue organization or shelter or found as a stray. (Yes, that means, although we are expecting mostly dogs and cats, rescue bunnies, pigs, ferrets, etc., are welcome to enter, too!)

Entering the contest is easy.
(1) Submit a photo of your rescue pet, along with a $10 entry fee.
(2) Then, in 250-300 words, tell us the story of your cherished pet -- how she or he became part of your family, what your pet means to you, and exactly why she or he is extraordinary.  (If you need assistance with your story, our staff can help you out. Just call or email us.) 
(3) Finally- very important! - Be sure to include why everyone should vote for your pet.

Photos of the 12 companion animals who receive the most votes, along with their stories, will be featured on a full page above one of the months on the calendar. 

Please note:  It is now our policy, no matter how many entries we receive (and we hope to have a lot of them!), that ALL ENTRIES ACCEPTED INTO THE CONTEST WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE CALENDAR!

What if your pet is not a rescue? You can reserve a calendar day for his or her photo to appear on, with a caption of your choice. The cost is $10.  (See Reserve a Day to Honor Your Pet, below).

In addition to being a heartwarming tribute to your pet, your participation will be aiding the work of The Crossings Animal Society.  The net proceeds from this contest and the calendar sales that follow will help support dogs and cats in need, including Boris & Natasha's Veterinary Fund, which supplements the cost of life-sustaining veterinary care.

The contest begins at 8:00 AM (Eastern Time) on Sunday, September 14, 2025 and ends at midnight (11:59:59 PM Eastern Time) on Sunday, October 26, 2025.  All contest entries must be received by midnight (11:59:59 PM Eastern Time) on Friday, October 24, 2025.
