Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Extraordinary"?
Even though we already had a wonderful 8-year-old dog, Coffee, we decided to foster another dog to provide emotional support to a family member who was having some health issues. We reached out to The Crossings Animal Society, who was incredibly kind and helpful, and through them, we were introduced to Finch, an extraordinary dog rescued by Luna Farms Rescue in Huntsville, Alabama. Finch came all the way from Alabama to stay with us until he found his forever home.
When we first met Finch, we immediately wondered how such a beautiful dog could have been left on the streets. He was terrified of everyone at first, spending most of his time in his crate, keeping his distance. When we let him out in the backyard, he would retreat to the farthest corner and stay there quietly. But after about a week, he began to warm up to us, and within two weeks, he had become part of our family. It did not take long for us to realize we were going to be a “failed foster” family, and we officially adopted Finch just a couple of weeks later. We are so glad we did.
Finch is an extraordinary mix of gentleness and energy. He never growls or barks at us, even when we are doing things he does not love, like giving him a bath or taking away a toy that is not his. He is patient with Coffee too, even when Coffee is not always kind in return. Finch happily goes for walks any time someone is ready, fetches a ball for as long as anyone is willing to throw it, and loves catching his soft toys in midair. He always wants to be cuddled, and when he is not playing, he can usually be found chewing on sticks in the backyard or running full speed from one end to the other, his way of burning off his cattle-dog energy. We are constantly amazed by his playful and affectionate nature, especially because Coffee is so different.
Finch’s speed-eating skills are also something to behold. We fill both dogs’ bowls, and before we can even turn around, Finch’s food is gone, while Coffee is still deciding whether to start eating at all. And the pure joy Finch shows whenever someone comes home is simply heart-melting.
Although we had some initial doubts about fostering a dog, Finch has proven to be an extraordinary blessing. He is gentle, loving, and full of life, and we truly cannot imagine our home without him. We are so grateful to The Crossings Animal Society for bringing Finch into our lives, and we are participating in this contest to express our deep appreciation for all that they do.
