A little about this entry...
The first year of the 500E, the only joint Porsche/Mercedes project. Mercedes hired Porsche to engineer the installation of the 5 liter V8 from the SL500 into the W124 chassis. Porsche determined the car needed to be lowered an inch, which required a subtle flair of the front fenders, rending the chassis too wide for the Mercedes production line. Porsche ended up doing a substantial part of the assembly of the car. and each one took 18 days to build. With about the same horsepower as the SL500, but hundreds of pounds lighter, it's pretty quick. The 1992 500E has the most horsepower and the smallest brakes of all the 500E's, which does not make for the best combination of features - you can tell why the 1993 car used the brakes from the SL600. Drives like a 4 door Porsche, stiff and fun. I bought this one on ebay; it has about 223,000 miles - you don't have to worry about putting miles on it.
