Pet's Story or BioOlive came into our lives at the end of August 2025 after being found as a stray on Genesee Street and brought to Rochester Animal Services. I’m a loyal follower of RAS on social media, and one evening I landed on Olive’s photo. I sent it to my wife, fully expecting a casual reaction.
Instead, my phone rang.
“She belongs with us,” she said. “Can we have her?”
Now, to be clear, we already had two fur sons, Lucas and Turk, and I wasn’t exactly campaigning to add another canine to the mix. But when Olive became available for adoption, we reached out and decided to foster her first… just to see how she’d do.
Then we met her at Verona Street.
I looked at my wife, and in that moment, I knew. This little chick was ours. We filled out the foster paperwork, buckled her in, and brought her home for the long Labor Day weekend, fully pretending this was temporary.
Spoiler alert: it was not.
From the very start, Olive fit right in. She matched Turk’s playful, energetic chaos stride for stride, and somehow managed to gently push Lucas, our more reserved guy, just enough to bring him out of his shell. Watching their dynamic form was all the confirmation we needed. After the weekend, we officially signed the adoption papers, and Olive became a permanent member of the Hayle crew.
Olive is pure joy wrapped in fur. She’s affectionate, playful, and has quickly claimed her role as queen of the house. She loves a good game of chase in the yard, snuggles like a pro, and, if the photo doesn’t already give it away, she serves. Effortlessly.
We can’t wait for warmer weather so we can keep adventuring with our girl, but no matter the season, Olive was the missing piece we didn’t know our family needed. We’re endlessly grateful to Rochester Animal Services for bringing her into our lives and for the work they do every day to give animals like Olive a second chance.
