Greetings from the Rainbow Bridge - My name is Muphy, and this is my story. In 2015 I was found wandering the streets of Rochester. I was skinny, dirty, and in pretty rough shape. I was so frightened in the Verona Street shelter that I literally couldn’t stop shaking. I started to worry that nobody would want to adopt a nervous scruffy guy like me. But then I met this awesome human named Carol. Right away we both knew it was meant to be. Carol took me to her home, cleaned me up, and we became best friends!

Our favorite activity to do together was going on daily walks around the neighborhood. I became friends with all the nice neighbors, and they started calling me “Murphy the Mayor”. I liked being the mayor. Years went by and I started to slow down. My ears and eyes didn’t work as good, and our walks got shorter and slower. But I still insisted upon patrolling the neighborhood (as any good mayor would do).

In August 2025, I crossed the rainbow bridge. I didn’t want to leave my Carol, but it was just my time. Carol, and even some of my favorite neighbors, were with me at the very end. I had a 10 year run as the mayor, and I think that’s pretty good! My story is not unique. There are dozens of frightened animals at the shelter. Please consider adding one to your family.
