Welcome to our Photo Calendar Fundraiser! The Washburn County Area Humane Society (WCAHS) is happy to announce that our pet photo contest and fundraiser is back by popular demand! With all proceeds raised by the event going to help feed and care for the hundreds of animals that pass through the shelter’s doors each year, we know that they are the real winners. Of course, the pet receiving the most votes will also be a winner, as our Cover Pet for our 2024 Calendar.
This year’s top vote-getter will receive a $1000 grand prize!
Get your friends, family, co-workers, even complete strangers to vote for your pet. Who knows – your pet just might be the big winner! While there can only be one “Pet of the Year”, there will also be 24 “Pets of the Month” – 1 cat and 1 dog for each month. In addition, we’ve added the “Cutest Dog and Cutest Cat” category with the winners being determined by the WCAHS Board of Directors. (Board members and staff are not eligible to win the “Pet of the Year” or “Cutest Dog and Cutest Cat” awards.)
It's easy to participate! Submit your favorite photo of your pet, then get your family and friends to vote for your pet’s picture. The entry fee is $20 per photo and we recommend selecting just your favorite image(s) to maximize your odds of winning!
RESERVE A DAY! You can ensure your pet’s photo appears on a special day of your choosing! It’s a great way to honor a birthday, adoptaversary, or any special date. If you reserve a date and end up being one of our 13 winners, your winning photo will appear as “animal of the month” and you’ll get to submit a second photo for free to appear on your chosen date! Each date reservation is $15 (in addition to your $20 entry fee) and selections are first-come, first-served, so be sure to act fast! To reserve a date, you must complete this form in addition to the entry form to be included.
Prizes
Grand Prize- Pet of the Year
A Grand Prize of $1000 will be awarded to the top vote-getter. These funds come from an anonymous donor and not from any of the photo contest calendar proceeds. The top vote-getter will also be featured on the cover of the calendar and will receive three free copies of the Calendar.
24 “Pets of the Month” will be featured in the calendar
The top 12 vote-getters from each category (dogs and cats) will win a featured month spread in the 2024 calendar and will receive two free copies of the Washburn County Area Humane Society’s 2024 Calendar. Plus, all photo entries with 5 votes or more are GUARANTEED inclusion in the calendar on the collage pages.
- Contest winners: The top 12 dogs and cats will automatically become our features pets in the WCAHS 2024 calendar.
- The deadline to enter your photo is 11:59:59 PM (Central Time) on Friday, October 20, 2023.
- All photo that receive at least 5 votes are guaranteed to be included in the calendar on either the cover, a month spread, or a collage page.
- If you’ve reserved a day and your photo lands in the top 13, your winning photo will appear as the featured photo for the month and we will contact you via email to acquire a second photo of your pet to use in your chose day’s location.
- Only photographs of animals from animal shelters, humane societies, and animal rescue groups will be included. Photos with humans or wildlife will not be included in the calendar.
- Only digital entries in .jpg or .png format will be considered. Photos must be a least 2MB to be printed as photo of the month or cover photo. Smaller photos may still be entered, but only qualify for placement in a collage page or using the reserve-a-day selection. If you are one of the top 13 winners and the file you submitted is of poor quality (it will not reproduce well in the calendar) and cannot be sufficiently improved for publication, we will alert you and give you an opportunity to send in a replacement photo of the same pet(s).
- Photos become the property of WCAHS and may be used and/or altered for the 2024 calendar and for other marketing/fundraising efforts.
- WCAHS reserves the right to reject any images or captions deemed inappropriate by staff or those that do not align with our standards of care. Photos of animals wearing prong or shock collars are not eligible.
- Absolutely no print photographs will be accepted.
