About Us
Founded in 1987 in Casper, the Wyoming Basset Hound Rescue organization has risen to a place of prominence in the Rocky Mountain region for its operational standards and care and compassion for the dogs placed in its program. Historically, the organization was founded more than a quarter of a century ago, but it reorganized and streamlined back in 2005 to better serve the needs of the region. Since then, the scope and support of WBHR has increased by the proverbial leaps and bounds in regards to members, finances, social media presence, fund raising, adoptions, fostering, transportation programs, development of a veterinarian support program, activities such as an annual picnic and support programs like "Hound Heroes" to name just a few.
The organization was granted non-profit 501(c)(3) status by the IRS effective in 2010 dovetailing with the creation of the Wyoming Basset Hound Rescue Foundation and expanded to care for bloodhounds as well in 2014. In addition, all dogs of mixed basset and bloodhound lines are welcomed. The WBHR has always been a careful steward of its finances, but with rising costs of veterinary care, even with discounts and gratis services, and an increasing number of health-neglected and senior dogs entering the program. the instances of "critical care" cases with associated expenses is on a dramatic rise and we are attempting to greatly enhance our fundraising efforts by venturing into the national arena.
