Breed
Chocolate Labrador

How would you describe their personality?
Here is a picture of our local Police Service Dog named R.C. She is a Chocolate Labrador, who was employed by the Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office in the care of her Handler Sgt. Justin Davis until she passed away in 2014. This Photo of RC is courtesy of Larisa O’Brien Photography.

Like most Labradors, "RC" was athletic and playful. She served the McCook community and local Red Willow County (RWC) towns as a loyal, well trained, and responsible service dog. She was a companion and partner who will be greatly missed by all those who worked closely with her and cared for her.

According to the American Kennel Association (AKA) the first Labradors were said to have been brought to England around 1820; however, the Lab breed's reputation had spread to England long before. There's a folk story passed down that the Earl of Malmesbury saw a dog (Lab) on a fishing boat and immediately made arrangements with traders to have some of these dogs exported to England. These ancestors of the first Labradors so impressed the Earl with their skill and ability for retrieving anything within the water and on shore that he devoted his entire kennel to developing and stabilizing the breed.

The Red Willow County K9 Unit program is funded through public and private donations. Since RC has passed, the newly trained K9 Unit dog is a beautiful German Shephard named Luna. Please contact Sgt. Davis if you would like to make a separate donation to help support the RWC K9 Unit which makes invaluable safety and security contributions to our community.
