Breed
Bombay

How would you describe their personality?
Midnight is shy, introverted, and mysterious. She likes to hide it seems sometimes for days at a time, and when she emerges she can be a real "scaredy cat" verses looking frightening at night with her pearl black fur coat and amber eyes. Some say crossing the path of a Black Cat can mean bad luck, but Midnight is such a sweet girl, you would actually be lucky to meet her and pet her - and hear her quiet gentle purr.

The Bombay cat is often mistaken for a miniature black panther. And according to the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) that is why the breed was created by Louisville, KY breeder Nikki Horner, who set her sights on producing a copper-eyed, black shorthaired cat with the exotic appearance of a mini or “parlor” panther. The black leopard of India inspired her choice of the breed’s name and the most defining characteristic of the Bombay is its short, flat, gleaming, black-to-the-roots fur coat. And along with its conspicuous large, brilliant gold (to copper) eye color, the Bombay is described as the “patent leather kid with the new penny eyes.” This description definitely fits our "Midnight."

We rescued Midnight when she was a little kitten in Kearney as she ran across the road in a neighborhood near our relatives. She had a massive red gash taken out of her fur due to another larger animal biting her, or a human mis treating her. Either way, it took some time (weeks actually) for her to feel safe and confident around us (any human). But in time, she warmed up to us and came around. We have had her now for over 7 years and while she is still mostly timid and shy, she has gained a lot of confidence in her life and has brought boundlessw joy to our household in McCook.
