Eligibility and Disclaimers

The contest is subject to all applicable national, federal, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Contestants who are 14 and under may participate in the contest with their parent or guardian’s assistance. 
 

The contest is limited to the following pets: dog, cat, small companion animals, reptiles, fish, and birds. Ferrets, farm animals, and wild animals who are captured from the wild or bred in captivity are ineligible to be entered into this contest. For the safety and comfort of all participants, farm animals, livestock, and exotic pets are not eligible. Additionally, all pets must be house-trained (if applicable) and able to participate in a studio setting without posing health or safety risks. Photos that do not follow this eligibility requirement will not be eligible to win, with no opportunity for a refund.

Any image that includes content that is deemed inappropriate, indecent, or obscene, as determined by the staff of Helen Woodward Animal Center in their sole discretion, will be removed from the contest. We reserve the right to remove any images from the contest that are hunting-related, including game, dead animals etc. Any image of dead animals or animals in an unsafe environment will be removed from the contest. While Helen Woodward Animal Center will remove images at our discretion, we don’t always condone the treatment depicted in the images or described in the stories.

• Acceptable photo formats are .jpg, .bmp, .png, and .tif
• Photos may contain one or more domestic pets
• Photos must be high resolution (300 dpi)
• Contain only domestic pets (no people or wildlife)
• Be horizontal (landscape) format
• Photos must not be heavily edited or produced with AI (artificial intelligence).
• No blurry photos allowed

By submitting a photo entry, you warrant and represent that your entry is your own original work, created by you, and that you own or otherwise control all the rights to your entry materials. If you submit an entry that is copyrighted by another individual, you are responsible for any legal action the copyright holder takes against you.

You also warrant that the photograph does not invade the rights of privacy of any individual, does not infringe on any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. 

Grant rights in conjunction with the contest.  By entering the contest, you agree to grant to the Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the photograph or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our pet photo contest.  Helen Woodward Animal Center will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity and agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted.

Grants of Rights for Additional Purposes. You agree to grant to Helen Woodward Animal Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright and without notification or payment.  Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity.

When you enter Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Faces of Hope Photo Contest, you warrant that the responses you provide to the entry questions are original, that you are the sole author and copyright holder of those responses, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of those responses to any other person or entity.  You also warrant that the responses contain no defamatory material or injurious instructions; does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity.

You also agree to grant to the Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the responses or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our pet photo contest. Helen Woodward Animal Center will not use your responses for any purpose not connected with this contact and will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity. Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted.

Releases are not responsible for printing, typographical, human or other errors of any kind in any contest-related materials, or for stolen, lost, late misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries.
