About Us

Napa Humane promotes the welfare of companion animals through protection, advocacy, education, and by example — guided by the belief that prevention is the most powerful way to protect pets and strengthen families.

Since 1973, the Humane Society of Napa County & SPCA, Inc. — known as Napa Humane — has worked to make Napa Valley a more compassionate place for companion animals. Our programs and services are designed to meet the needs of pets and the people who care for them by providing accessible veterinary care, education, and community support throughout Napa County.

As the only regularly operating, low-cost, high-quality spay and neuter clinic in Napa County, Napa Humane leads local efforts to prevent pet overpopulation and reduce unnecessary shelter intake. This work is rooted in the Power of Prevention — stopping suffering before it begins, protecting pet health, and creating long-term, sustainable change for animals and families.

In 2025, Napa Humane delivered prevention-focused services to thousands of animals across Napa County.

Services provided include:

  • 4,319 spay and neuter surgeries for cats, dogs, and rabbits
  • 2,829 vaccinations
  • 1,183 microchips
  • 386 pets provided with basic preventive care, offered at little to no cost for pet owners

Each surgery day serves as the foundation of prevention — helping avoid unplanned litters, reducing shelter intake, and supporting lifelong pet health. Napa Humane sustains up to 246 days of spay and neuter surgeries annually, ensuring prevention remains consistently accessible within the community.

Prevention also includes education. In 2025, Napa Humane reached 3,654 students ages 5–11 throughout Napa County, providing humane education that teaches kindness, compassion, and responsible pet care. By equipping young people with knowledge and empathy, the organization helps shape a future generation committed to animal welfare.

It is through prevention-focused, community-based services that Napa Humane works toward a more humane Napa Valley. Spay and neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, preventive care, and humane education function together as a comprehensive strategy to reduce suffering before it starts.

Napa Humane is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported entirely by below-market fees-for-service, private donations, grants, and fundraising events. The organization does not receive funding from national animal welfare organizations, nor does it receive government funds.

Through the Power of Prevention, Napa Humane continues to protect pet health, prevent overpopulation, and strengthen the bond between people and their animals across Napa County.
