Kiwi (formally fritters), is not your typical dog, but a dog everyone can’t help falling in love with. When being introduced to Kiwi, they of course had to give us her rap sheet, and it wasn’t short to say the least. It included being rehomed 13 times with various reasons why she wasn’t the right “fit”. They also warned us that she was wary of men. When we walked outside, out comes barreling in this sturdy brindle pitty having an underbite filled with criss-cross teeth. It was love at first sight. Kiwi put paws on Michael’s lap, then me, and stared into each of our souls, and that was that.

Shortly after buying her new toys, we decided to take her to Solemn Oath. That day, we realized that Kiwi was not only special to us, but she was part of a community. At Solemn, as soon as we walked in, Woody popped his head to the side and said, “Is that fritters?” To which Kiwi ran behind the bar to welcome a familiar foster friend. Ironically, Otat was having an event at the bar that day, and just as before, Kiwi ran into familiar foster friends, all of whom protected her, loved her, and supported her. They expressed hope and excitement for her new chapter.

Since day one, kiwi taught what it means to “grow into your authentic self”. From being terrified of water to jumping in like a sea otter. Learning how to navigate city noises and how to respect boundaries (specifically her older sister, Marcia, the cat ).

Kiwi is the true meaning of a Chicago dog. Fearless, loving, loyal, funny, and cares about community. That’s why we think kiwi would be the best fit. She can’t help but win people’s hearts, that’s for sure.
