Rules

Entry
  • All competition entries must be submitted online using the GoGoPhoto website platform: www.gogophotocontest.com/PreservationConnecticut
  • You must create a GoGoPhoto account in order to submit your photographs.
  • Photographers may submit their work for consideration under the following categories:
    Black & White, Color, Frederick Law Olmsted Firm Design, and Smart Phone (you can view a list of public places the Olmsted firm designed here).
  • Participants may submit up to 5 images as either a Serious Amateur or Student Photographer (active student under 24 years of age).
  • Image resolution and file size requirements:
    • Resolution: minimum 300 PPI (DPI)
    • File size: maximum 10000 kB
  • Images are submitted online, one entry and one payment per transaction. This avoids title, file, and photographer confusion. Do not attempt to bulk upload or bulk pay for your entries. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Eligibility

Open to anyone ages 8 years or older. Photographs must be of Connecticut historic landscapes and taken within the past 2 years.

Historic landscapes are composed of several character-defining features which, individually or collectively contribute to the landscape's physical appearance as they have evolved over time. In addition to vegetation and topography, cultural landscapes may include water features, such as ponds, streams, and fountains; circulation features, such as roads, paths, steps, and walls; buildings; and furnishings, including fences, benches, lights, and sculptural objects. Examples include:

  • residential gardens and community parks
  • scenic highways
  • rural communities
  • institutional grounds
  • cemeteries
  • battlefields
  • zoological gardens

Deadline

All entries must be received by April 23, 2022 at 11:59PM.

Entry Donation Fee

$25 entry fee per submission. Entries cannot be submitted without payment.

Viewer's Choice and Public Access

The Viewer's Choice winners will be four photographs (one in each category) with the highest number of public votes. Votes are cast by making a donation ($1 = 1 vote).   The winners of the Viewer's Choice voting will receive recognition at the opening of the “Picturing History” Juried Photography Show at the Art League of New Britain in June 2022 and their photographs will be exhibited.  Viewer's Choice voting ends on April 23, 2022 through the GoGo Photo website.  The Viewer's Choice voting, ranking, or winner has NO BEARING on the juried process of the “Picturing History” 2022 Photography Show, although they can be part of the jury’s selection.


Notification of Winning Photos

Upon entering, please know that if the jury selects your photo you must participate in the traveling show by providing framed photo(s).

Photographers selected for the “Picturing History” exhibition will be notified by email on or before May 10, 2022. Photographers NOT selected will be notified by email on or before May 11, 2022.


Presentation/Delivery of Selected Work
  • Works selected by the professional judges (and four Viewer’s Choice winners) must be delivered to the Art League of New Britain or Preservation Connecticut office for exhibition no later than June 2, 2022.
  • Please include your name and the title of your work on the back of the frame.
  • Exhibition photographs may be hand delivered or shipped in flat, reusable cardboard boxes, with bubble wrap.  Works will be returned in their original packaging.  All return shipments will be sent via UPS. Hand delivered work that is not picked up by the deadline will not be returned and left at the artist's own risk.
  • Selected photographers will deliver exhibition prints prepared as follows:
    • Matted and framed with glass/plexi and hanging wire secured about 1/3 from top. No sawtooth hanging. Outside frame dimensions not to exceed 600 square inches.  Please, no canvas prints.  Acrylic and/or metal prints are acceptable; please supply proper hanging hardware.
  • By submitting a photograph, you are agreeing to allow your photograph to travel in the exhibit for up to one year.

Sales

Photographs will not be offered for sale during the exhibition. However, information on how to contact the exhibited photographers will be made available to visitors upon request.

Reproductions/Copyright

Submission for entries acknowledges the right of Preservation Connecticut to reproduce any selected work for its promotional and publicity purposes.

Liability/Insurance
Insurance for artwork in transit is the responsibility of the individual artist. Preservation Connecticut will insure works on its premises.
