My Shelter In Place story
As a shelter worker COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on our organization. Many of our animals were in temporary foster homes while we were shutdown. The impact doesn’t stop there though, we are operating in a post lockdown environment now that brings its own challenges. While we have moved forward with adoptions by appointment ( with social distancing and mandatory face masks ) our number of adoptions is down significantly. The SPCA is still trying to do all we can to help dogs like Chelinda. She is currently a Medical Foster at the Allen County SPCA since being diagnosed with heart issues, and suffering a seizure. The good news is she is improving daily with her new meds, lots of TLC, and the support of our Foster Program! Chelinda is a senior chihuahua navigating these difficult times just like the rest of us by enjoying every day as best she can. Her strength and tenacity in the face of adversity is an inspiration in these trying times.
