My Shelter In Place story
Pitcher Franklin was adopted in 2017 and was a 'wedding present' from dad to mom (who always wanted two dogs!). Rescued from Miami Dade county shortly before Hurricane Irma, Pitcher came to us with unique problems. He had a rough life on the streets in Miami and was, at one point, intentionally dragged by a car which caused several injuries and scars that he still has today. As you can imagine it took a long time to gain Pitchers trust but he's become a sometimes cuddle-bug over the past three years and mom and dad couldn't be more proud of the progress he's made in letting people approach him!

Although still skittish sometimes his specific 'brand' of humor comes from his being completely unaware of his body or movements. He consistently underestimates how large he is (although only 26 pounds!) and gets stuck in silly places. He scares himself awake when he sneezes or farts and this sometimes sends him running into another room!  He adores his older brother, Redd, and wants to play constantly (Redd does not share this desire).

We let Pitcher spend lots of time outside and that's his favorite place to be! We pretty much consider the backyard as 'belonging' to Pitcher and refer to it as 'his kingdom'.  Every time we let him outside he does a few laps around the yard and then comes to sit at the top of it (it's on a hill) and looks over his 'kingdom' for about 10-15 minutes. Then it's a roll in the grass and possibly some zoomies before he's ready to come back inside!

Even with his rough start to life he's the gentlest dog we've ever encountered and we couldn't be happier that we found him!
