Pet's Story:
Sam was found living in the woods near Jacksonville. He was a mess. When I started to foster him, he had been kicked out of two foster homes in Tampa and had lived in a cage at PetSmart for a month. He had minimal potty skills, nipped at people who got close to him, seriously bit people who were close to his food or tried to take things out of his mouth. He received some training and a positive approach to changing his behavior, but he was still adopted out twice and returned to TBBR. After all that, I felt that he was destined to become my pet....whatever that meant at the time. After a year of consistent limits, a lot of training sessions, exposure to other dogs that were not aggressive, daily doses of Prozac and lots and lots of love, it was possible to say that he was starting to get domesticated. Over this past year, he has begun to actually play with other dogs, cue me when he needs to go outside, live for six months with children aged 8 and 14, jump in my lap when he is frightened and show or request affection from people around him. These days, he lounges around the house, chases squirrels when possible, barks at anyone who comes to the door and is overall, a WONDERFUL companion. Thank you to TBBR for taking a chance with him and me, for providing trainers and training tips and remaining supportive of Sam's growth.
