Wisconsin Adopt a Golden Retriever (WAAGR) is a dedicated, all-volunteer rescue organization committed to giving Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes the second chances they deserve. Since our founding in September 2004—and achieving 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in February 2005—we have worked tirelessly to provide safe, loving, and permanent homes for dogs in need.
Our journey began with the rescue of our very first dog in May 2005. Since then, WAAGR has grown into a compassionate network of volunteers and supporters who share a deep love for these loyal and gentle companions. With no paid staff, everything we accomplish is made possible by the generosity of donors and the dedication of individuals who give their time, energy, and hearts to our mission.
We believe every dog deserves a bright new beginning. Many of the Goldens we take in have lost their homes through no fault of their own, and we are committed to helping them transition into stable, happy lives. Our volunteers step in wherever needed—from coordinating rescues and providing foster care to arranging veterinary treatment and carefully matching each dog with the right adoptive family.
Education and community involvement are at the core of what we do. By promoting responsible pet ownership and staying actively engaged in our communities, we strive to ensure successful, lasting placements in loving forever homes.
On average, we spend approximately $1,200 per dog to cover medical care, rehabilitation, and daily needs. As a donation-funded organization, we rely entirely on the kindness and support of our community to continue this vital work.
At WAAGR, every rescue is a story of hope, and every adoption is a new beginning—for both the dog and the family who welcomes them home.
