About Us
Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue (AGPR) is a volunteer-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Great Pyrenees dogs in need. Each year, we provide shelter, medical care, and placement assistance for over 100 Pyrs.
Our dogs come to us from shelters across Virginia and neighboring states, as well as from owners who can no longer care for them. Many arrive frightened, neglected, or simply misunderstood—but with time, patience, and love, they begin to heal.
At the heart of AGPR is a dedicated network of volunteers, supported by a small paid care crew, who ensure our dogs receive consistent, loving care every day. From hands-on dog care to fundraising to adoption screening and transport coordination, our work is carried out by people who believe deeply in second chances for these gentle giants.
We receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations to continue our life-saving work.
