FAQ

Q: What kind of photo can I submit?
A: To qualify for the contest, submit a photo from any of the 100 countries where CARE works. Photos must be landscape orientation (wider than tall), high quality, taken at maximum resolution (2550 x 1650 or higher), sharp and in focus. Images will be pre-approved by CARE Canada before they are posted to the contest site. Photos can be of landscapes, nature, buildings and wildlife including animals. If the photo contains a person or people, you must be able to confirm and provide written authorization from that person for CARE Canada to use the photo. It is preferred that the photo not feature a person or people.

Q: How are votes counted?
A: Donations made in support of your photo are valued at one vote for every $1 donated.

Q: How long is the contest open?
A: The contest begins May 14th and ends June 31st.

Q: Is there a fee to participate?
A: The fee to enter is $25. A tax receipt will be mailed to you for the full amount of your registration fee in June. Included in your registration is a free calendar which will be mailed to you in November 2019.

Q: Do I get a calendar when I vote?
A: Everyone who donates $25 or more will receive a CARE 2021 Calendar in the mail in November of this year. 

Q: Who gets one of the calendar pages?
A: There are 13 pages to win (the cover and each month). The top fundraiser will be featured on the cover, and the 12 runners up will each be awarded a month in the calendar. Calendar dimensions are 8.5" x 5.5".

Q: How do I get a top spot?
A: Fundraise and spread the word! The CARE 2021 Calendar Contest is a fundraising activity to defeat poverty and end inequality in developing countries around the world. To win, share the link to your photo entry with friends, family and colleagues so they can vote for you to earn a place in CARE's 2021 Calendar!

Q: If I win, what happens next?
A: If you win one of the Top 13 spots, you will be contacted directly by a CARE Canada staff member regarding photos and photo quality. A high-resolution version of the winning photo must be provided by Friday, June 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm EST to be included in the production of the calendar. If your image does not meet the resolution requirements, or you do not provide a high-resolution version of your image by this time, your spot will be given to the runner up.

Q: What if I don't want to donate online, or am collecting cash donations?
A: CARE's 2021 Calendar Contest is an online fundraising campaign. The benefits of fundraising online include the ability to keep an accurate and up to date record of your donations and reducing the security risks associated with handling money.

However, if you would prefer to make a donation by cheque, please make the cheque payble to CARE Canada, complete this short form to accompany your gift and mail them to us at:

If you receive cash donations we ask that you do not send it to us in the mail. Please deposit it into your own bank account and have a bank draft or cheque drawn up to the order of CARE Canada and complete this pledge form and mail them to us at the above address.

Q: Can I be disqualified?
CARE Canada reserves the right to disqualify an entry based on objectionable content or depiction of a person or people in a photo. All submissions are subject to approval upon being posted.

Q: Will I receive a tax receipt when I vote?
A: Donations of $10 or more will receive an official tax receipt, which will be mailed to you in June. In order to receive a tax receipt, we will need your complete mailing address.

Q: When will I get my tax receipt?
A: Immediately after registering or voting you will receive an email confirmation of your donation. Official income tax receipts will be mailed to you in June 2020 if you make a gift over $10. In order to receive an official income tax receipt, we will need your complete mailing address.

Q: What will CARE Canada do with my entry once it has been uploaded?
A: By agreeing to the waiver, you will also acknowledge and give permission to CARE Canada to use your name, story and photo entered in future various publications and materials, including the 2021 CARE Calendar.
