About Us

It is the mission of the Virginia Beach SPCA (VBSPCA) to create a more humane and responsible community by decreasing our tolerance for cruelty while increasing our capacity for compassion. Founded in 1966, the VBSPCA is the largest privately funded animal shelter in the Hampton Roads, Virginia region. Our shelter takes in and cares for over 3,500 homeless domestic animals each year and rehabilitates over 2,000 wildlife a year. We are a wholistic, adoption-focused shelter that averages a greater than 90% adoption rate, and we are steadfast in our mission to offer the best care to the animals we serve, as well as improve the plight of animals throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.
