Pet's Story or Bio
As a family friend's health was failing, he gifted me his 64 Ford pickup and his dog. If that's not a country western song in real life, I don't know what is.
Hank, named after Hank Williams, is a high energy, spirited and independent dog. A rough start in life, picked up from a cardboard box outside a Safeway and passed through several caregivers his first year (some who did not have his best interests in mind), it took patience and forgiveness on both our parts to get to the relationship we have now.
He loves road trips and has evolved into the perfect traveling companion. On a trip last summer, we discovered he even has his own town, Hanksville, Utah, Population 219. He was well received by the locals, always on his best behavior and looking quite dapper in his ever-present tuxedo. He has been invited back this year for the University Rover Challenge, an international competition of robotics out in the training grounds for the Mars Rover.
Back home in Idyllwild, he has established himself as the king of tennis ball retrieval. He is unrivaled in his ability to chase down a ball, leap up and snap it out of the air with a backward snatch. His fondness of the yellow orbs is legendary and we frequently find ball altars left by friends and neighbors.
Always happy, his tail even wags in his sleep if someone utters the magic words; "Who's a good boy?".
He is my buddy, my protector, my Hank.
