Artist Statement (include type of art, techniques & materials used, what it means to you)
“Reflection” is made from etched glass and conveys the principle of growth. After drawing my design on a piece of paper, I then traced this onto a piece of contact paper. Then, using an X-acto knife, I delicately carved the design, cutting out the positive space so that the etching cream would fill the positive space, allowing the positive space to be etched. Finally, I placed the contact paper onto a glass cup and applied etching cream over it. After washing the etching cream off, my design was completed.

This artwork compares my past to my present, exemplifying my transition from a young child to a young adult woman. This includes my experience with craniopharyngioma, which has shaped me to become a stronger and more empathetic and compassionate woman. This piece serves as a reminder of my accomplishments and how they have shaped me to become who I am today.
