The 2023 calendar will focus on the pure COMFORT and JOY that Huskies and Northern breeds and their Humans give to one another. Master Wolf of Shadow Husky Rescue, Inc. believes that rescuing and caring for rescue dogs can be the most transformative experience of a lifetime. The vulnerable interaction breaks the vicious cycle of a past history of abuse and neglect and brings rejuvenation, reinvigoration and regained quality of life. When a Husky or Northern breed is feeling relieved from distress and grief, there is a calming inner peace. Once trust is established through love and hands on affection there is joy and a sense of ease which helps Huskies, Northern breeds and owners alike deal with every day minor stress, physical and emotional discomforts. The enduring comfort experienced between a Husky and a Northern breed and their human is the utmost form of happiness on earth. Everyone has a COMFORT and JOY story or two to tell. Your story is IMPORTANT. It has MEANING. We want to read about them and learn about them and see beautiful photos of your fluffy butts. We are HOPING that after the stories are read and shared by viewers all month long during the contest and while participants share your stories and place $1 bids for the dogs that they love, they will bring some inner peace COMFORT and JOY to all of us while we continue to take care of animals and help others in need.

The funds raised from this year's Calendar Contest will help pay down outstanding veterinary bills and benefit future rescue dogs.

From January 1, 2022 - August 30. 2022, we have had many success stories so far and many were adopted into wonderful happy homes. We have been rescuing shelter dogs and receiving more surrender dogs because the shelters have been full and have been rejecting them. Tim McVicker tries his best to respond to the 100s of daily pleas for help. We took in 1 year old Coco who spent her first year living on an enclosed 6x8 patio with little to no human interaction. In spite of that, once she got to her foster, she blossomed and is super fun and loves to play. She went to her first husky meet up sponsored by Shadow Husky Rescue on August 6, 2022 and ran around the dog park interacting with all of the huskies and had a blast! We have had medical dogs with a variety of conditions, including cancer, seizures and broken hip, who have been going to oncologists and veterinarian specialists. This year sadly, Elizabeth was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, and we beat it thanks to a great surgeon and our huskies who were there to COMFORT her and bring her JOY. On August 31, 2022, our surrender dog Ryder underwent surgery for neuter and cryptorchidism for his undescended testicle. Ryder previously was hit by a van and then taken to a shelter. He then was scheduled to be euthanized when the good Samaritan who saw him get hit by a car reached out to us. We found the best foster for him avoiding two death sentences. The vet said his broken pelvis would heal with 3 months' rest. He has a sweet soul and wants to do good.  The photos below depict Alakai (3 hernia surgeries), Rogue (demodectic mange and incontinence), Marlo (found wandering the streets of Carson by Animal Control with an embedded collar in his neck labeled "rescue only" thanks to his adopter who reached out to us to pull him from death row and no success from any other rescue, flew to California from New Jersey and then drove him back to live the great life), Spartacus (metastatic cancer currently in hospice care), Maya (our sweet girl suffering from epilepsy and ovarian remnant syndrome), Ryder (cryptorchidism), Rocket (monoplegia and amputation of limb after incessant chewing to the bone), Dasher (rattlesnake bite), and Kaila (cancer of the liver). Kaila sadly passed away on August 13, 2022.  She was one of our first recue dogs who had accidentally blinded one eye of her prior owner's shih tzu.  Also on the date of her prior owner's wedding, she slipped on Kaila's urine (due to Kaila's life long incontinence) which caused visible bruising...an "embarrassment" to the wedding guests.  We were thrilled to receive her into our private kennel at the Shadow Husky Rescue sanctuary in early 2013. Kaila gave us COMFORT and JOY until she sadly passed on August 13, 2022.  On September 2, 2022, Doogie a husky/malamute/timberwolf (not in photos) fell 30 feet from a window onto a concrete driveway.  He was rushed to the emergency vet and had surgery the next day.  His veterinary bills totaled $13,109.  Other medical procedures this year have included our regular spay, neuter, diagnostics, x-rays, ultrasounds, infections, vaccinations, micro-chipping, boarding and more!
